How to Apply

Please make note

The Virginia Tech Graduate School is transitioning admission application systems in mid-August. If you have started, but have not yet submitted, an application for admission, please do so by August 17. Otherwise, we look forward to your submitting your application for admission in our new application system. Because data from this current application will not be transitioned over to the new system, you will need to reenter any information you have already completed here.

Steps to Graduate Program Acceptance

  1. The Graduate Affairs Committee reviews an applicant’s qualifications and recommends acceptance.
  2. Candidates are matched with a faculty advisor (major professor). This process is helped if, prior to applying, you contact professors you are interested in working with.
  3. A source of financial support — stipend and tuition — is identified.
  4. After these steps have been completed, successful applicants are offered admission.
